Cat’s Claw & Swallowtail
$42.00
A reproduction of Mark Catesby's plate of cat's claw with a swallowtail butterfly, from his natural history work of 1731–43. A thorny, branching stem carries soft green leaves and round, pink powder-puff flowers. On the left, long brown seed pods twist into loops, with dark seeds hanging on coral-red threads. Below right, a pale yellow swallowtail spreads its wings, edged in black with small dots of yellow and blue.
The colours sit on a warm cream ground, with the plate number 97 kept in the top corner as in the original. It suits a study, a reading corner or a wall of botanical prints, and it comes unframed so you can choose your own mount and frame.
