Cross-vine
$42.00
A reproduction of Mark Catesby's plate of cross-vine from The Natural History of Carolina, 1754 edition. A single climbing stem runs up the centre of the sheet, with narrow green leaves in pairs, fine curling tendrils at the top, and trumpet-shaped flowers in deep orange opening to yellow, five-lobed faces. To the left sits a long, pale brown seed pod, split to show the flat seeds stacked inside. The plate number 82 is visible in the upper right corner.
The hand-coloured look of the original carries through in the soft greens and warm oranges against an aged cream ground. It suits a study, kitchen or hallway, or sits well alongside other botanical plates in a group. It comes unframed with a white border, ready for a standard mat or frame of your choosing.
