Vanilla Orchid
$42.00
A hand-coloured botanical plate of the vanilla orchid from Mark Catesby's work (1731–43). A climbing vine twists around a slender upright stem, with long ribbed leaves in olive and sage greens, a cluster of buds at the top, and two open flowers: one pale white-green, one in ochre and orange with curling petals. A long seed pod crosses the lower half, and a small scatter of seeds sits near the bottom edge.
The paper reads as a warm cream, which lets the muted greens and soft orange stand out without feeling bright. It suits a kitchen, study or hallway, and would sit well alongside other natural history prints. The plate number 7 appears in the top corner and a small monogram near the base, as in the original.
