Yellow-throated Creeper
$48.00
Mark Catesby's 1754 plate of the yellow-throated creeper, a warbler, shown perched on a pale maple branch. The bird is soft grey with a bright yellow throat, its beak reaching up into hanging clusters of red-orange winged seeds. Below, a single green serrated leaf and a small sprig of tiny red flowers fill out the page, all set against a warm cream ground with plenty of open space.
The palette is restrained, mostly greys, greens and that run of red, so it sits easily in a study, hallway or reading corner, or alongside other natural history prints. The plate number and the small Latin captions at the foot of the page are kept as part of the image.
